Number 10: Counting Cows
The most basic of counting apps we have listed here, Counting Cows presents a herd of cows to be counted. The cows are counted (by a female voice) as each one is tapped, and they disappear so cannot be counted more than once. After all of the cows are counted, verbal praise is given, "Well done, you've counted all the cows" and the game resets. There are no ads, in-app purchases or external links making this a perfect app for very young children.

Number 9. Toddler Numbers and Counting
It is hard to find good quality apps that are free on Android that do not contain a load of ads, so you will be pleased to know that we have found one here. Toddler Numbers and Counting is a flashcard type of app that counts apples, carrots, cars or monsters (child can choose). Numbers 1 though 15 are presented as a grid and when a number is tapped, the number of items (eg. apples) appears at the top of the screen. The numbers can be tapped in any order or the items at the top can be tapped for counting in order from 1 through 15.

Number 8. Farm 123 ~ StoryToys Jr.
I was doubtful when I heard this app was a pop-up book. A pop up book on a tablet? How does that work? Take a look and you'll find out — the graphics are fantastic! It really looks like a 3D pop-up board book lying on a table. Your child can flip the pages of the book and animate the characters that pop up. Your child can also change the viewpoint with a swipe of his/her finger.

Number 7. Cutie Monsters Preschool

Cutie Monsters Preschool is a nice 1-10 counting app with a unique look. The narration of each page goes something like this "Blushy has one curly tale" and then the child presses on Blushy to see and hear the number one. That is then reinforced on the next screen with a counting exercise up to the number from the previous page. There is also a well-done wood puzzle section.

Counting Fun teaches children to count from 1 through 10 with 4 different activities. Dot-to-dot (one-to-one number correspondence), ordering numbers, counting animals and identifying the correct digit from a choice of three, and number tracing practice are all good reinforcing activities. There are no ads, no in-app purchases and for $0.99 this is an absolute bargain! You won't regret downloading this.

Number 4. Zorbit's Math Preschool
Reviewed by Eleanor at Smart Apps For Kids, Zorbit's Math Preschool was given four stars. This is what Ellie had to say about it: A high energy math app for preschoolers, using animation, storytelling and boisterous aliens to introduce math, shapes, colors, language and listening skills. An engaging app that will not bore your preschooler. Also useful for special needs learners as the content is not cutesified. Free lite version available.

Number 3. TallyTots
As with AlphaTots, we rated TallyTots a Top Pick at smartappsforkids.com. The app helps teach kids the numbers up to 20 with a mini game for each number. For example, for the number 13, there are 13 eggs and each has to be cracked by touching it several times. Each egg contains a chick that cheeps. The app costs $2.99 but is well worth it.
