The brand new series Peg + Cat on PBS Kids is now available as an Android app! This wonderful music teaching app not only introduces children to notes on a stave, but also teaches musical patterns. Two sides of the app give the player the option to learn how to play, or to play freestyle. This is a fantastic early learning music app that is offered on Google Play, Amazon and Nook.

Choose the Big Gig option to learn how to read music by doing Warm Ups. The chosen musician plays his/her instrument as your child taps the colored and numbered circles that match the circles on the stave. After working through the Warm Ups, your child can then Pick A Song to play, from the repertoire of original songs from the TV series. The song is played phrase by phrase, which your child then copies using the "keyboard".
The Sound Check option gives your child the opportunity to perform and record his/her own music using a variety of instrument and voice options. It is this expression of creativity that makes this app a Smart App because children can be quite innovative in their music creation if given minimal instruction and restrictions. This is definitely going on my Top Apps to have on Android devices list!

In the Sound Check activity, explore and make music on your own! You’ll find a chorus of chickens ready to cheep, musical instruments, song loops, and characters who will sing and shout on your cue. You can even record your little ditty and play it back. The music you make is up to you!
Created by Jennifer Oxley and Billy Aronson and produced by the Fred Rogers Company, PEG + CAT is an animated adventure series for 3-5 year olds that inspires children to see math and problem solving as exciting, accessible, and fun.
