Sight Words Flash Cards. That phrase just makes my skin crawl. I know for some kids there is no other way around learning to read than to use flashcards and repeat ad nauseam, but sitting there flipping over card after card does not seem like "learning through play" to me. I think Intellijoy has realized there must be a better way because the repetition of words is achieved in Kids Sight Words by playing fun mini-games. Hooray for technology in education!

Kids Sight Words is the latest app by Intellijoy, one of our Android Developers of Note. There are already so many good apps by this developer, and this latest offering may just be their best app yet. Realizing that children at this stage of development are focused on play, Intellijoy has redefined the term "flash" when it comes to flashcards. The first mini-game involves filling an aquarium from jugs that scroll across the top of the screen so that Tammy the tadpole can grow. The second mini-game involves tapping on words being held up by birds to feed Tammy the frog.
Kids Sight Words is purchased first as a lite version with two of the four mini-games unlocked. The full version is then purchased through the app to unlock the final two mini-games. The Dolch Sight Words non-nouns list of 220 is used in this app with the words organized into five different levels of difficulty. This is what I love about technology in education: all of the sight word resources are in one location, easily customized and most of all fun. You cannot go wrong with Kids Sight Words Lite.

Join Tammy the frog on a journey through four exciting activities (this lite version contains only two activities) as she hops from one screen to the next to learn and review commonly used English words from the list of 220 Dolch sight words. There are five levels of vocabulary for the child to learn and review.
In Kids Sight Words, children will:
- listen to common words and identify the correct sight word
- learn to recognize common words at their reading level
- improve reading skills by practicing words that they may have seen or are familiar with
- (improve reading fluency)
